I am very glad and honoured to welcome you at LBS Africa Business Summit 2018. The theme for this year is “Scaling for Impact”. Despite their booming successes, many African enterprises still struggle to expand outside their local environments; equally, many international companies continue to operate on on dominant markets but are unable to serve the rest of the continent. These businesses are facing numerous challenges that limit their growth some of which include lack of common infrastructure, inflexible policies and a high number of unskilled workers.
Imagine if Africa became more integrated and collaborative, if businesses could grow across the continent and beyond seamlessly, if companies from different countries could easily cooperate and match their strengths to be more successful together, if international expertise could work hand in hand with local knowledge. This year we would like to explore what practical approaches can be used to help businesses and corporations in Africa to achieve sustainable growth and to thrive both locally and globally. We will take a closer look at various levers that could enable this growth – from Pan- African trade, investments and technology to entrepreneurship environment and culture.
In addition to the important debates during the summit, this year LBS Africa Club, in partnership with club alumni, went a step further to create impact on the ground. We have launched the Accel Awards – a platform for African start-ups that provides them with mentorship by LBS students and funds the best companies. Top three start-ups selected from more than 160 applications will present their ideas to you during the Summit.
Look forward to seeing you on the 12th of May.
